Reducing Soil Permeability Using Bacteria-Produced Biopolymer

چکیده
The building of civil engineering structures on some soils requires their stabilisation. Although Portland cement is the most used substance to stabilise soils, it associated with a lot environmental concerns. Therefore, very pertinent study more sustainable alternative methodologies replace use cement. Thus, this work analyses ability xanthan-like biopolymer, produced by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Faro439 strain (LabXLG), reduce permeability sandy soil. Additionally, effectiveness LabXLG compared commercial xanthan gum (XG) and for various hydraulic gradients curing times. results show that treatment either type XG can be over short term (curing time less than 14 days), although greater level obtained XG, due its higher purity. soil creates network fibres link particles, while fills voids homogeneous paste.

Permeability Modification Using a Reactive Alkaline-Soluble Biopolymer
Introduction: Polymer injection has been used in reservoirs to alleviate contrasting permeability zones to enhance oil recovery (EOR). Polymer technology relies mainly on the use of polyacrylamides cross-linked by a hazardous metal or organic. Contemporary polymer plugging has investigated the stimulation of in-situ microorganisms to produce polymers (Jenneman et. al., 2000) and the use of bioc...
متن کاملGrowth Inhibition of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria in Produced Water from the Petroleum Industry Using Essential Oils.
Strategies for the control of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in the oil industry involve the use of high concentrations of biocides, but these may induce bacterial resistance and/or be harmful to public health and the environment. Essential oils (EO) produced by plants inhibit the growth of different microorganisms and are a possible alternative for controlling SRB. We aimed to characterize th...
متن کاملEstimation of Soil Permeability using Soil Index Properties
Permeability is a very important engineering property of soils and finds utility in a number of soil engineering problems such as yield of wells and seepage through and below the earth structures. It controls the hydraulic stability of soil masses. The permeability of soils is also required in the design of filters required to prevent piping in hydraulic structures. However, the determination o...
متن کاملProteome Analyses of Soil Bacteria Grown in the Presence of Potato Suberin, a Recalcitrant Biopolymer
Suberin is a complex lipidic plant polymer found in various tissues including the potato periderm. The biological degradation of suberin is attributed to fungi. Soil samples from a potato field were used to inoculate a culture medium containing suberin as the carbon source, and a metaproteomic approach was used to identify bacteria that developed in the presence of suberin over a 60-d incubatio...

ABSTRACT: The use of new compounds to increase the shelf life of more perishable foods based on nanoparticles and biodegradable polymers have been developed in packaging. Chitosan (Cts) is a natural biopolymer with excellent biodegradability and nontoxicity and antibacterial effect. In this research antibacterial copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were incorporated in the biodegradable chitosan matri...
